Lakeland launches Modern Milk

Lakeland Dairies has launched Modern Milk – a range of flavoured milk products for adults. After carrying out research on the flavoured milk markets in Europe, the company found that flavoured milk was primarily positioned as a kids drink, however there was a definite sophistication in other categories, such as smoothies and drinking yogurts. Further research led Lakeland to identify Modern Milk as a suitable product for an adult market, with emphasis on the natural inherent goodness of milk.
The range was launched to the trade in September 2010, The four flavours are strawberry and raspberry; milk chocolate with caramel; coffee with vanilla; and banana with honey. Lakeland, through its UK subsidiary Pritchetts, concentrated its initial launch on the south east of England, targeting consumers through coffee shops and delis in high footfall areas such as train stations and high streets. In January it secured listing in Tesco, where it will feature on the shelves of 270 Tesco stores.
Lakeland is Ireland's second largest dairy processing co-operative, operating across 15 counties on a cross-border basis. The co-op collects 800m litres of milk from its dairy farmers each year, for processing into a wide range of dairy food ingredients and dairy foodservice products which it then exports to 70 countries worldwide.
