- French tasters say ‘Oui’ to Irish salmon
Irish smoked salmon was ranked first for taste by French consumer magazine 60 million des Consommateurs in three different quality categories: organic, standard and red label, while Santé and Sophie Gourmand’s food magazines also awarded Irish smoked salmon first place in their taste tests. Top Santé was also complimentary of Irish organic smoked salmon commenting on its flavour and low fat content.
According to Bord Bia, the independent taste tests were carried out before the Christmas and News Year’s peak party and entertaining period. The results will come as a boost to Irish salmon suppliers, and in particular those supplying organic salmon, which has already gained a reputation for top quality and fine flavour in France and continental Europe.
Salmon retail sales figures in France for the first six months of 2009 showed Ireland to be the fastest growing origin with 31.6 per cent increase in volume sales compared to the same period in 2008 (TNS World Panel).
