Gold Membership is about recognising Origin Green members who deliver a
best-in-class environmental performance , writes Director Deirdre Ryan
Origin Green is the only sustainability programme in the world that is centred on measurable difference, that has independent verification at its core, that operates across the entire food supply chain and that is national in scale.
The Origin Green Progress Report shows that in a five-year period, food manufacturers delivered an 11% reduction in energy use per unit of output and a 17% reduction in water use per unit of output. They donated 4,717 tonnes of surplus food to FoodCloud, planted 9,261 trees on manufacturing sites and donated over €8m to community and charity organisations.
These successes have been due to the hard work of our 324 members, many of whom have embraced sustainability as a central part of their vision and ethos.
Going for gold
Origin Green Gold Membership is an exciting step forward to achieving our collective ambition of driving sustainability improvement and being a leader in food sustainability globally. It is about recognising those companies who, each year, make a significant individual stride in sustainability; who provide a best-in-class environmental and social target performance that deserves to be highlighted and celebrated; and who have a story to tell that can be an inspiration and role model for their peers.
Origin Green Gold Membership will be awarded to companies who demonstrate an exceptional annual performance based on the assessment of our independent verification authority. Companies will receive credits for their performance in areas such as raw material sourcing; water efficiency; waste reduction; packaging; and social sustainability.

To ensure that every Origin Green member has an opportunity to achieve Gold Membership, we have established five different membership tiers, based on company size and turnover, so that the real diversity of our industry is reflected in the overall Gold membership.
To bring real value to membership, we have created a series of benefits that effectively mean your hard work and dedication to sustainability gets the recognition it deserves. These include the Gold Member plaque and logo which can form part of a communications strategy, as well as the PR opportunities that we can help to create.
Origin Green’s progress and leadership in sustainability is driven by its members. Delivery of the ambitious targets is what gives us the evidence base that we can take to customers of Irish food and drink around the world. Oakpark Foods is part of the family-owned Brett Group, started in 1940 by Bridget Brett and her four sons. The company’s success has grown from the roots of a small agricultural merchant, selling inputs to farmers in Kilkenny and Tipperary, to a multinational pork and bacon processor servicing some of the biggest retailers in the world.
Oriel Marine Extracts
Based in Clogherheard, Co. Louth, the company harvests a very pure and natural mineral sea salt which is used by many food companies to replace salt due to its lower sodium benefits and powerful taste profile.
